Report: BTFU 0-1 Broadway Warriors 18/12/2007
Chris Deane and Oli Guildford had counted themselves out of this fixture and that made this derby game, this clash of the titans, to be a daunting prospect. Sam Westwick and Toby Hinkins took the defence positions in front of reliable goalie Ryan Ellis. Woody took Chris' place in the midfield and Aron Dryland and Ryan Clark stayed up front. There seemed to be no clear control of the game, with few chances to ethier side. However, when the BTFU were on the backfoot in the first half, they were saved on several occasions by the hard work and never say die attitude of battler Sam Westwick. There were times when Sam made dashes half the length of the pitch and across it, in order to cut out danger and get to balls first. In one moment of brilliance he managed to make up ground in order to get to the ball and get his foot around the ball enough to send it back up the pitch; starting a good move. As well as his lone efforts, he and Toby, under the watchful eye of keeper Ryan and benched Head Fox Simon Bethune, managed to keep a very tight defence. Together they did an outstanding job. Good link up play was made between the forwards, but nothing was stuck home. In the second half, a contraversal goal was given in what ended up deciding the match. Keeps Ryan made a great 'parry' save which came back out into his area. A Broadway Warriors player was ready to strike but the ball was inside the area. Toby was soon next to him but could touch the ball as it was inside. Both Ryan and Head Fox Simon were shouting "It's in, it's in!". The Broadway Warriors player waited but it still wasn't out of the area when he took the shot. Thus hitting a ball while it was in the keeper's area. This goal should not have been given but the ref paused and then gave it. The player had his back to the ref at the time of the shot, blocking his view, but the BTFU players saw it, and the goal was a dirty one. After that there were a string of powerful attacks from the BTFU, including a long run by Sam Westwick which he ended by giving a long across pitch ball to Ryan Clark, who did well to get to it in time. The shot didn't make it home. Aron Dryland and Ryan Clark then stayed up front hoping to latch onto something, but it didn't come. Head Fox Simon Bethune came on for Woody in the last 5 minutes, and injected some more energy into the play, making several good runs and a few good tackles to push for a goal. In the end it was our keeper Ryan Ellis who saved us a bigger scoreline as he made a few incredible saves, each one different and more impressive than the last. This was a great game for him and a proud game for everyone. Man Of The Match: Sam Westwick********************************************************************************************** Match Report: BTFU 2-3 AFC Edwards 11/12/2007
This was the first match in the new season and things were much improved. Newcomer Ryan Clark, who played for another team until they disbanded, played a stormer up front and Rob from Soccer FX again had to step in to play at the back. Ryan Ellis was avaliable to be our goalkeeper for the night. The game started very well and Ryan Clarke had a couple of chances well saved by the goalkeeper. We were in full control for the first part of the game and should have taken the lead. Oli Guildford, who had been held up, arrived in the first half and replaced Rob at the back. AFC Edwards, who only lost one game in old season 3, did take the lead before half time. Rob, of SoccerFX fame, came on to replace Head Fox Simon Bethune and we were still pushing hard at the end of the first half. Chris Deane had a few shots, but it wasn't until after half time when Chris Deane smashed a deserved penatly home to bring it to 1-1. The BFTU kept pushing for the win, which left us open at the back sometimes. The AFC Edwards keeper, who played so well in the first half - was subbed off at half time - but the replacement was just as good!! He made a few saves and on the counter attacks the managed to overpower us to 3-1. One goal was a mistake when all our defenders were up, leaving thier man to run through one on one. The other was a freekick and their man in the middle, just outside the area wasn't marked closely enough. Aron Dryland played fairly well and battled hard but nothing really opened itself up for him to have a crack on goal. Ryan clarke, who was actually playing in blades that night and therefore at a distinct disadvantage, managed to get his debut goal in the end to bring it back to 3-2, but we were out of time to get the late equaliser. The new addition to the squad scored 6 in the last 4 for his other team, and it it was not for the goalkeeping, would have scored 4 tonight! Still there is promise for the future games. We certainly do need SoccerFX's Rob to keep everyone aware, and soon Chris Deane's long shots and Ryan Clark's new forward venom are sure to bring us a league win.
